The Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SA WISE) is a dynamic association for all those who support the idea of strengthening the role of women in science and engineering in South Africa.

SA WISE aims to strengthen this role by inter alia:

  • raising the profile of women scientists and engineers
  • highlighting and addressing problems faced specifically by women in these fields
  • lobbying for the advancement of women in science and engineering
  • providing leadership and role models for young people wishing to enter the fields of science and engineering

An important function of SA WISE is to improve communication among women scientists and engineers, with e-mail being the preferred medium of communication. Members are encouraged to send ideas and information to SA WISE. SA WISE also maintains contact with other associations of women in science and engineering world-wide.

Scholarship Details

The Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SA WISE) is an association for all those who support the idea of strengthening the role of women in science and engineering in South Africa.

The Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SAWISE) invites female students entering their Honours level/ 4th year of study to apply for the SAWISE scholarships.

Application Deadline: 15th November 2017

Offered annually? Yes

Eligible Countries: Women in all African countries. South African applicants will be given preference.

To be taken at (country): Tenable at any of the following universities:

  • University of Cape Town
  • University of Johannesburg
  • University of Kwazulu-Natal
  • University of Pretoria
  • University of Stellenbosch
  • University of the Witwatersrand,
  • University of the Western Cape

Number Of Scholarships: Not Specified

Value Of Scholarship: Recipients will receive R15 000.

Eligibility: To be eligible for this scholarship program, applicants must:

  • be An African female student.
  • have achieved an academic average of over 65%.
  • be In any field of science and engineering. Medical fields are also included.
  • exhibit outstanding personal qualities and a strong desire to make a contribution to their respective fields and to society at large.
  • indicate financial need.
  • be studying at one of following institutions: University of Cape Town, University of Johannesburg, University of KwaZulu-Natal, University of Pretoria, University of Stellenbosch, University of the Witwatersrand, and University of the Western Cape.
