UNILAG Convocation Ceremony: First Graduate Sets in Entrepreneurship and Skills Development

The University of Lagos will be churning out the first set of graduates in Entrepreneurship and Skills Development. The students, numbering 217 according to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe FAS cut across different faculties of the University and their convocation marks a major success of the university management’s resolve to create new set of vibrant business owners and wealth creators rather than job seekers.

The 217 students who would be receiving certificates in Entrepreneurship aside their degrees are part of the 12,217 total population who made the convocation list for the 2019/2020 academic session of the University of Lagos.

Speaking on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at a Pre-Convocation Press Conference to outline activities for the University’s 52nd Convocation Ceremonies, Prof. Ogundipe informed journalists that of the total population of graduating students, 7,799 will receive first degrees or diplomas while 4,418 will receive postgraduate degrees.

He noted that the Convocation Lecture slated for Monday, January 17, 2022 and titled: Building Back Better: Creating a New Framework for Tertiary Education in Nigeria in the 21st Century, will be delivered by the Speaker, House of Representatives, and a 1983 Law Graduate of this University, Right Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila while Honourable Justice Amina Adamu Augie, CON, of the Supreme Court will preside as the Chairman.

Schedule of Events

This is to inform all Graduands that Payments for ALL graduating students for the 52nd (2020) Convocation Ceremonies are as outlined below:
  • Mandatory Payment

Payment for ALL graduating students for the Convocation Ceremonies shall be as stated below:

First Degree – #20,000

Masters Degree PGD, M.Phil. – #25,000.00

Doctorate Degree – N25,000.00 

 

  • Purchase/Hiring

Gown, Hood & Cap shall be obtained at the following costs:

Academic Outfit – Outright Purchase – Hiring

First Degree. – #20,000.00 – N10,000.00

Masters Degree, PGD, M.Phil. – N25,000.00 – N10,000.00

Doctorate Degree #45,000.00 – N/A

Academic outfits will be available at the College of Medicine, School of Postgraduate Studies, Faculties, and the Distance Learning Institute.

(iii)        Return of Academic Outfit

The deadline for the return of all academic outfits shall be Thursday, February 3, 2022, while those who fail to return the outfit shall be made to bear the cost of outright purchase (N20,000.00) before clearance is issued.

(iv)        Collection of Certificates

All graduating students are expected to collect their certificates within three (3) months after Convocation.  Failure to collect them will attract a demurrage of N50 per day.

UNILAG Convocation Ceremony: Procedure for Payments

Graduating students are to make all payments by accessing the University website (www.unilag.edu.ng), complete the form under UNILAG payment portal (student category).
Thereafter, graduating students are to proceed to any bank of their choice with the RRR generated, for payment as appropriate.  Copies of bank teller and payment advice bearing bank confirmation should be taken to the College of Medicine, School of Postgraduate Studies, Faculties and the Distance Learning Institute as appropriate.

Invitation Cards for Graduating Students

Each graduating students shall register to attend the Convocation Ceremonies. On successful registration, graduating students are to print out the Access Code and present same at the Convocation Venue for admittance to be granted into the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium. Convocation Brochures are to be collected at the various locations earlier mentioned. Graduating students are enjoined to attend the Convocation Ceremonies at the time allotted to them.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS on behalf of the entire University community congratulates all graduating students.  Please be assured that certificates would be ready for collection immediately after each ceremony upon the presentation of all necessary clearance.
