UNICAL Convocation Ceremony Schedule and Important Information for Graduands: 

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Zana Itiunbe Akpagu, on behalf of the Council, Senate, Staff, and Students of the University of Calabar cordially invites the General public to the 34th Convocation Ceremony for the conferment of Diplomas, First Degrees, Higher Degrees and award of Honorary Degrees and prizes to deserving graduands of the University for 2019/2020 academic year.

UNICAL CONVOCATION CEREMONY PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES

DAY 1: TUESDAY, 23RD MARCH, 2021
Event: Press Conference by the Vice-Chancellor
Venue: Council Chamber
Time: 10.00 a.m. 

DAY 2: WEDNESDAY, 24TH MARCH, 2021
Event: Inter-Denominational Service 
Venue: Unical International Conference Centre 
Time: 10.00 a.m. 

DAY 3: THURSDAY, 25TH MARCH, 2021 
Event: Research Fair and Exhibitions  
Venue: Tennis Court   
Time: 10.00 a.m.

DAY 4: FRIDAY, 26TH MARCH, 2021  
Event: Convocation Lecture  
Topic: “The National Question and the Challenges of Nationhood in Nigeria”.  
Convocation Lecturer:      HE Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi,  Minister of Transport 
Venue: Unical International Conference Centre
Time: 12.00 noon 

DAY 5: SATURDAY, 27TH MARCH, 2021  
1st Event: Ground-Breaking Ceremony of KAM-Wire ODL Building
Time: 9.00 a.m. 

2nd Event: Convocation for the award of Diplomas/First Degrees/Higher Degrees/Conferment of Honorary Degree and Induction into Unical Alumni.
Venue: Abraham Ordia Stadium
Time: 10.00 a.m. 

SPECIAL INFORMATION TO GRADUANDS

The authorities of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) release some important information to all Graduands of the institution as regards the coming event.

 

Academic Gowns: Gowns to be obtained from the Faculty Officers of relevant Faculties on the payment of a deposit of N4,000.00. A refund of N1,000.00 will be made on the return of the gowns. Gowns not returned by March 31, 2021, will attract a fine of N1,000,00 per day.            

For Graduate School graduands, the following will apply:

  1. Outright purchase of Academic Gowns:
    • Ph.D = 59,500.00 each
    • Masters = N30,000.00 each
  2. Hiring of Graduate Gowns
    • PGD = N12,500.00

Please note that all academic gowns hired from the Graduate School must be returned within seven (7) days from the date of the convocation. Defaulters will be sanctioned as appropriate. 

Invitation Cards to Parents/Guardians: Two invitation cards will be issued to every Graduand by the Faculty Officers. Each Graduand is therefore entitled to two guests only.

Procession: The Convocation Procession will adhere strictly to the Keffi Protocol for the conduct of Convocation. Graduands should robe and join the procession in their various Faculties. Graduands who do not robe will not be allowed into the convocation grounds. Photographers will not be allowed at the procession. All photographs will be taken after the convocation.

Prizes and Awards: Prizes and Awards will be announced during the convocation. Recipients will collect their awards/prize value on the presentation of a letter of the award at the University Bursary.

Alumni Membership Registration: Graduands will be expected to complete registration forms for alumni membership from their Faculty Officers and pay the membership registration fee.

The University of Calabar Administration looks forward to welcoming all her graduands/well-wishers to the 34th Convocation Ceremony.
