More About Paul University Awka You Should Know

The take-off site of Paul University is the premises of Saint Paul’s College, Awka, founded by the Church Missionary Society (CMS), an evangelical arm of the Church of England (Anglican) in 1904, as a college for the training of Church workers and teachers of various categories. The permanent site of the University is at Oji River, and plans are under way for its development. Both sites of the Paul University at Awka (the take-off site) and Oji River (the permanent site) are on the Enugu-Onitsha road and thus easily accessible from the city centre of Awka, the capital of Anambra State, and from Enugu the capital of Enugu State . Both sites also can boast of an ideal academic environment where students and staff, under Christian discipline and administrative guidance, will not be distracted, and thus will concentrate on their studies.

Our objectives as a University are grounded in the conviction that the records of our Anglican forebearers in primary and secondary education management in Nigeria and elsewhere, will be surpassed several folds by the impact, successes and contributions which Paul University will make in tertiary education in Nigeria. Anglican schools in the past, with a structured supervisory system, laid great emphasis on the total man – his intellectual, physical, social and spiritual development, and on his discipline and the fear of the Lord, which is indeed, the beginning of all wisdom.

It is these accumulated experiences that the Bishops sought to bring to bear on tertiary education in Nigeria, ensuring that when Paul University puts its stamp of achievement, in both character and learning, on any of her products, a truly trained human being will emerge to join in the undeclared war to save the soul of our great country, Nigeria. As our motto says, our products are made “Ready to be sent.”

Currently Paul University offers twelve courses of study in two faculties, namely, Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences and Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences. Our curriculum lays emphasis on academic achievements, and acquisition of practical and entrepreneurial skills in conducive physical and spiritual surroundings. Our staff are carefully selected as true role models for our students. Paul University has been declared acentre of excellence in Theology and Mathematical Foundations; and progressive application of ICT and Entrepreneurial skills are some of the distinguishing features of Paul University.

The University is anchored on the core values of spirituality, excellence, diligence, and moral rectitude. On the foundation of the Protestant Ethics of hard work, prudence, justice, truth and honor, we hope, under God, to propel the University to a higher pedestal from its present position. Paul University would be an enviable institution, a model for faith-based universities in the country, with predictable academic calendar and highly dedicated staff, and producing enterprising graduates, sound in learning and character, future leaders who would drive development and enterprise in the country.
