Ondo State University Of Medical Sciences Approved By NUC

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences as the 40th state university in Nigeria.

This was contained in a letter of recognition presented by the Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Julius Okojie to the Ondo state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

The NUC Scribe said the commission will also write the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to include the new university on the list of universities candidates who seek tertiary entrance admissions can apply to.

“I wish to congratulate the government of Ondo state for the establishment of Ondo State University of Medical Sciences.

“With effect from the 22nd of April 2015 the Ondo State University of medical Sciences has been recognised by the National Universities commission as the 40th state university and 139th university in Nigeria”, the letter read.

Speaking shortly after he received the Letter of Recognition, Ondo state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko said the university was established based on the desire of Ondo state government to have a specialised university that is dedicated to training for service delivery and research.

He disclosed that the Nigerian Post Graduate University of Surgeon has already accredited the university for post graduate training based on the facilities on ground.

Governor Mimiko said the university has taken off already with the Letter of Recognition from NUC.(

About NUC:

The National Universities Commission (NUC) of Nigeria was established in 1962 as an advisory agency in the Cabinet Office. However in 1974, it became a statutory body and the first Executive Secretary, in the person of Prof. Jibril Aminu was then appointed.

The NUC is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Education (FME). The Commission has a Governing Council, currently headed by Professor Shehu Galadanchi and its Executive Secretary is Prof. Julius A. Okojie, who assumed office on August 3, 2006.

In its over 47 years of existence, the Commission has transformed from a small office in the cabinet office to an important arm of government in the area of development and management of university education in Nigeria.
