The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has signed a memorandum of understanding to build an ultra-modern complex of the Department of Civil Engineering in Bayero University, Kano.

NNPC and Bayero University had signed the MoU on Thursday, 18th April, 2019 at the Vice Chancellor’s Committee Room. The project will cost three hundred and ninety-seven million two hundred and eighty-five thousand eight hundred and six naira (N397,285,806.25).

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor M.Y. Bello, who was represented at the signing of the MoU by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Haruna Wakili, thanked and appreciated the NNPC for the goodwill gesture, which he described as a dream come true. He said BUK cherished excellence and quality in all its projects. He expressed Bayero University’s commitment and determination to continue to partner with the NNPC.

He, therefore enjoined the contractor to maintain the excellence which BUK is known for in the construction of this modern edifice.

Former Head of Cvil Engineering Department, Dr A. Y. Dr Abdulfatah further explained that the Department of Civil Engineering proposed a collaboration with its counterpart department at UTP and the proposal was expanded to an MoU between the two Universities. Having the understanding that the MoU would be funded by PETRONAS from the Malaysian side, BUK approached NNPC for support in this regard. Subsequently, a strong collaboration had been established between BUK and the Corporation.

Meanwhile, the contractor, Alhaji Lawal Aboki, thanked BUK for its support in preparing the contract and securing all the regulatory clearance.

Other management staff present at the ceremony were the Registrar, Hajiya Fatima Binta Muhammad, the University Bursar, Dr. S.M. Bello, Director, Public Affairs, Ahmad Shehu, Director, PPU, M. Gazzali Munir among others.
