Nigerian Institute Of Journalism, NIJ Admission Into ND, HND and PGD Programmes

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and Special programmes for the 2019/2020 academic session.

Available Programmes:

The Institution offers programmes leading to the award of diplomas in Mass Communication. These programmes are also available on part-time basis during weekends. The full-time diploma programme is of two year duration while the part time equivalent is three years.

  1. National Diploma (ND) – Mass Communication [Full Time & Part-Time]
  2. Higher National Diploma (HND) – Mass Communication [Full Time & Part-Time]
  3. Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) – Broadcast Journalism [Full Time & Part-Time], Print Journalism [Full Time & Part-Time], Public Relations/Advertising [Full Time & Part-Time]
  4. Proficiency Certificate – Photo Journalism, Communication & Writing Skills, Basic Photography, Sports Report and Presentation.

National Diploma (ND), Mass Communication

Admission Requirements

  • Five Credit passes in the WAEC or NECO Senior Secondary Certificate Examination or its equivalent in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Students’ enrolment and admission is through (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). At the end of the course, successful candidates are awarded National Diploma.

Higher National Diploma (HND) – 

Admission Requirements

  • Five Credit pass as it is for admission into National Diploma
  • National Diploma in Mass Communication with minimum of Lower Credit from a recognised and NBTE-accredited institution.
  • (c) Evidence/Proof of a one-year mandatory Industrial Attachment. Admission is done directly by the Institution. At the end of the course, successful candidates are awarded Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication.

Post Graduate Diploma (PGD)

The programme is separated into three specialised areas of Mass Communication:Print Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising. The programme is of Two semester (One Academic Session) duration for Full Time and Three semester for Part Time students. The programme is designed to expose and equip the students with the fundamental principles and theoretical framework of Mass Communication practice. Every student in all sequences apart from their professional courses, take these core courses: Foundation of Mass Communication, Theory of Mass Communication, Mass Media Law and Ethics, Mass Communication Research Methods; Communication for Development, Media Management and Topical Issues in Mass Communication.

The attention of the Management of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), has been drawn to the activities of a quartet offering admission into the Nigerian Institute of Journalism under false pretense.

Members of the quartet claim to be :

Dr Mord Martins

Dr (Mrs) Mabel

Dr Phillips

Dr Oduwole M. Oluwatosin

These unscrupulous elements have been sending admission forms to gullible admission seekers from an e-mail address: informationedu2017@gmail.com after they (admission seekers) might have parted with various sums of money paid into bank accounts.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Nigerian Institute of Journalism does not have admission agents and does not intend to appoint any.

The reader is advised to be on the lookout for these scammers under any pseudo names they might wish to operate and report to the nearest police station for appropriate action.
