MOUAU Appoints New Vice Chancellor

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Governing Council of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) has approved the appointment of Prof. Francis Otunta as the new Vice Chancellor (VC) of the institution.

This is contained in a statement signed by Prof. Anya Anya, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, made available on Friday in Umuahia.

Otunta would replace Prof. Hilary Edeoga, whose tenure would lapse in March 2016.

The statement noted that the appointment was approved by the Governing Council following Otunta’s successful performance at an interview of shortlisted candidates for the position, which took place on Wednesday at the institution.

According to the statement, the appointment is for a single term of five years.

Otunta, who hails from Afikpo, Ebonyi, was born on April 29, 1958 and became a Professor of Mathematics, University of Benin (UNIBEN) in August 2003.

He was the Rector, Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, Ebonyi state from 2006 to 2014.
