The team from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) at this year’s edition of the 8th National Mathematics Competition for University Students (2016 NAMCUS) in Nigeria, which took place in Abuja, have been crowned the best in the country.

This is even as the feat has earned the university the slot to represent Nigeria at the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) being organised by the University College, London and holding in America University, Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria between July 25-29.

The annual Maths  competition in Nigeria, which earned them the ticket to Bulgaria, was organised by the National Mathematical Centre.

The team, which was represented by four students from the university’s Mathematics Department, comprised Michael Omolaja (500-level), who clinched a gold medal and the title of Best Student Mathematician across Nigerian universities; Mary Akinade and Segun Ofe, (both 500-level) who won silver medals and Desmond Dike, a 300 level student who picked a bronze medal.
