JAMB Sued By LEDAP, NUC Says Post UTME Should Be scrapped

According to reports from the media, JAMB has been sued By LEDAP and NUC is advocating that Post UTME should be scrapped. The Legal Defence and Assistance Project (LEDAP) has filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja seeking for an order declaring the post- Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) tests conducted by universities, polytechnics and colleges before admitting students illegal and should be abolished.

In the suit, which was filed against Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) and National Universities Commission (NUC), the group claimed that there is no law authorizing them to subject candidates to a second screening or test after the examination by JAMB.

The group also claimed that the post-UTME tests have become a source of boldface corruption in the universities, polytechnics and Colleges, adding that lecturers and admission officials charge candidates huge sums of money using the post-UTME as smoke screen.

In the suit filed by Mr. Chino Edmund Obiagwu, lead counsel for LEDAP, the group seeks a declaration that only the 1st Defendant (JAMB) has the statutory powers to conduct matriculation examinations for admission into all Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in Nigeria.

He also wants declaration that the imposition and conduct of post-UTME by Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in Nigeria for candidates seeking admission into their institutions is illegal and unlawful.

What do you think about this?

Scrapping post utme will be the worst thing that will happen to education system in Tertiary institutions coz high corruption will arise in the sence that if the child of a rich man could not score high in jamb, the man can easily take the child to jamb office and pay any amount and sort jamb and b4 you know it, the child has gained admission. it will be hard for the poor to secure admission in a sence that they can't pay that amount to get admission only if God is by ur side and you are lucky then they will mistakenly give u d admission. In some cases whereby you score 180 and the only hope you have is that post utme to measure up and still get ur dream course. Scrapping post utme will lead to a student finding himself in a school he never inspired for. OK, tell me how possible it will be for jamb to offer admission to every candidate that scored 180 and above. you see is not possible coz they will skip so many, even those that scored higher mark. But with screening, the school selects d number of students dat survived, and u will know dat you didn't survive or you did survive.

I first thank God for an opportunity like this............ I think sitting for another examination for admission after jamb utme examination should really be scrap. Because we have met many situation whereby, a student will seat for jamb exam and arrived at an institution desirable jamb cutoff mark and going to seat again for university utme exam, may not be lucky enough as to meeting up to the score required for that exam, you will agree with me that his chance for admission has been render unenterable because of this, and he will have to seat down for another year in other to write jamb again and if not lucky enough may meet with jamb cutoff required this time;for God knows how long. So you will also agree with me that encouraging student with opinion like this, which mostly express their desire will help to promote people's desire for education and will even promote educational standard in the country,,,,............once again sir, thanks for speaking some of our mind.............

Mr. Dan, please I need your help as regards UTME and Post-UTME past questions sir.

I hope you would be of help to your namesake sir?

Do you think this would work?
If Post-UTME is scrapped, admissions wouldn't be easier either. The most sought after schools would have no choice than to increase their UTME cut-off mark for admissions for all their courses. For instance; Law cut-off mark may be 280 or above and so on. If anyone fails to meet up to that, his or her admission will be automatically denied and he or she would have to sit for UTME again the following year.
The 200 minimum cut-off mark is still helpful in sense that once you score 200 and above, you would be eligible to sit for the POST-UTME of your choice institution. Peradventure, such a person may pass. Let's take a second of this.

    1. Thanks for your opinion as always, Dan.
It's been a while. How is everything?

I think that the post-utme should be scraped coz it's really not helping matter at all in our education system rather is making it worse and the education system going down
