FUTA Convocation Ceremony: See 29th and 30th Ceremonies Schedule



FUTA Convocation Ceremony: The school management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has announced that 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies will hold between Friday November 23 and Friday November 30, 2018.

This is to inform all the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 Graduands of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) that the combined 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies of the University for the award of Certificates, Diplomas and Sub-Degrees, First Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters’ Degrees, Doctorate Degrees, Conferment of Honorary Degrees and Presentation of Prizes, will take place from Friday November 23 to Friday November 30, 2018 with the following highlights:

The highpoints will be the Award of Certificates, Diplomas and First Degrees on Thursday November 29 and the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters Degrees, Doctorate Degrees and the Conferment of Honorary Degrees on Friday November 30, 2018.

Graduating students in the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 Academic Sessions should note the dates. More detailed information and directives will be provided in due course.

FUTA Convocation Ceremony Notice To Graduands

Ahead of the Convocation Ceremony, the management of Federal University of Technology, Akure wishes to inform all graduating students as follows:

  1. All students must be at the robing venue by 8.00am at the car park of the Main Auditorium 
  2. Procession for graduating students Starts at 8.30am
  3. Students who are not fully robed will not be allowed take part in the procession
  4. Students will not be allowed to join the procession midway
  5. During the Ceremony, no student will be allowed in and out of the Venue

Parents and Guardians will not be allowed into the Auditorium. A Special Area, where they can follow the proceedings live, has been designated for Parents and Guardians of Graduating Students and they will be allowed into the Area on the Presentation of Invitation Cards.

Appropriate measures have also been taken to ensure security of lives and property before, during and after the ceremony. There shall be increased surveillance of the precincts of the University and all events venues. Only officials with appropriate tags and persons with invitation cards will be allowed into events venues. Vehicles with appropriate tags should be parked at designated car parks while there will be restriction of vehicle without tags within the Campus. 

Therefore members of the FUTA Community should note this development and cooperate with the Security agencies and designated officials of the University. Members of the University Community, staff and students are enjoined to show understanding in this regard.

FUTA Produces 206 First Class Graduates

206 students will bag the first class honours degree at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) combined 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies for the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic sessions holding between Friday November 23rd and 30th 2018. Briefing journalists on Friday, 23rd November, 2018, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor Professor Joseph Fuwape, the Chairman of the Ceremonials Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development, Professor Phillip Oguntunde said no fewer than 6,000 students will be graduating, with Mr. Adebodun Tope Samuel of the Department of Applied Geophysics graduating as the best student with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average of (CGPA) of 4.91.

Giving a breakdown of the class of degrees, he said 206 finished in the First Class division, 1,933 with Second Class Upper, 1,875 Second Class Lower, 725 Third Class and 61 in the Pass division. According to him 138 would be awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), 996 with Masters Degrees, 570 with Postgraduate Diplomas, while Masters in Space Science and Technology programmes will have 13 graduands.

Professor Oguntunde added that three eminent Nigerians will be conferred with FUTA’s prestigious honorary degrees in recognition of their contributions to the development of the nation in their different areas of endeavor. They are Engr Akinwumi Odumakinde, the President, Impact Leadership Academy (a capacity building network for the youth) and Managing Director, DeltaAfrik; Dr Lawrence Olusegun Aina, a former President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and current Chairman of the University’s Advancement Board and Oba Dr Olufemi Olutoye, JP, OFR, Alani of Ido- Ani, the traditional ruler of Ido Ani Kingdom and a retired Major General of the Nigerian Army.

He said a number of projects which include the new undergraduate female hostel, undergraduate male hostel, 25km Campus Wide Fibre Optics Cable equipment, Students Archival Project (e- Senate Project) and Energy Kiosk would be commissioned in the course of the ceremonies. The week long ceremony which begins on Friday 23rd November, 2018 will climax with the formal Award of Certificates, Diplomas and First Degrees on Thursday 29th and Award of Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s Degrees, Doctorate Degrees and Conferment of Honorary Degrees on Friday 30th November at the University Main Auditorium.
