About Federal College Of Fisheries And Marine Technology (FCFMT)

The Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology is a higher education institute located on Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria. It is a monotechnic approved by the National Board for Technical Education. The College was originally known as the Federal School of Fisheries, established in 1969 as a vocational training institute for Nigeria’s in-shore fishing fleet. It was upgraded to a technological institution in 1992. The college offers courses in fisheries technology, general science, marine engineering and nautical science. It has two hostels, accommodating about 450 students.

Residential Facilities

The Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology (FCF&MT), Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria provides residential facilities for all students in the three major disciplines of study, namely, Marine Engineering, Nautical Science and Fisheries Technology.

There are two blocks of hostels in the College. They are: the New (Japanese)) and Old (Maroko) hostels. The old hostel, which is a one-storey building of two wings, houses the first year male students. It has the capacity to accommodate one hundred and fifty (150) students. The new hostel complex is a two- storey edifice which accommodates both male and female students. The female wing has the capacity to accommodate twenty-four (24) students, while the male wing has the capacity to accommodate two hundred and forty-eight (248) students.

There are beds, mattresses, cupboards, reading chairs and tables in each of the rooms, provided for the comfort of the residing students.

Water is adequately supplied to the hostels from the College water treatment plant, in addition to the supply from the Lagos State water pipeline network. These have been done in order to ensure that the hygiene condition of the hostels and environs are kept and maintained at all times.

Hostel personnel (Supervisors and Porters) are available on a 24 – hour basis, 7 days a week, to cater to the needs of students.

The College Clinic is open on a 24-hour basis, 7 days a week to provide medical services to students. The clinic is manned by adequately trained, experienced and well- motivated Doctors, Nurses and other auxiliary staff. However, serious cases of ailments are referred to specialist medical centers within the city.

On the resumption of students for an academic session, allocation of hostel rooms to students is carried out on the basis of “first come, first served”.
