College of Health Technology Calabar Admission Requirements

The table below is a list of all the available courses in the college. Prospective students are advised to study the list carefully and ensure they meet the entry requirements of their intended course of study before proceeding to apply for admission.

HND IN PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING (WAHEB)
2a.ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER (ND)TWO (2)/FOUR (4) YEARSMinimum entry requirement into National Diploma (ND) in Environmental Health Science Programme is five (5) O’level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Health Science in either WAEC/NECO at not more than two sittings. Candidates with JAMB score of 150 and above have added advantage.ND, HND IN ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH TECHNOLOGY (WAHEB)
2b.ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIANTHREE (3) YEARSMinimum of 5 passees in O’level WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO at not more than 2 sittings. Three (3) of the passes must be at at credit level and should include English Language, Biology or Health Science, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing and any other subject.ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN DIPLOMA (WAHEB)
2c.ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ASSISTANTSTWO (2) YEARSFour (4) O’level passes which should include at least one science subject (Biology, Chemistry, Health Science, Nutrition, Physics). A pass in English Language will be an added advantage.CERTIFICATE
2d.HEALTH PROMOTION AND EDUCATIONTHREE (3) YEARSFour (4) credits in SSCE, NECO, GCE or Teachers Grade II to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Health Science and any other subject.HPE DIPLOMA
3a.COMMUNITY HEALTH EXTENSION WORKER (CHEW)THREE (3) YEARSFive (5) Credit level passes at WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO O’level not more than two (2) sittings.
These must include:
English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Health Science. Also, candidates with JCHEW certificates have an added advantage.
NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN COMMUNITY HEALTH (NATIONAL COMM. HEALTH PRACTITIONERS BOARD.)
3b.JUNIOR COMMUNITY HEALTH EXTENSION WORKER (JCHEW)TWO (2) YEARSThree (3) credits and two (2) passes at O’level WASSC or NECO in not more than two sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Health Science and any other two subjects.CERTIFICATE IN JUNIOR COMMUNITY HEALTH (NCHPBC)
4a.PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IN HEALTH INFORMATION MGTTHREE (3) YEARSFive credits in O’level at not more than two sittings at the SSCE/WASSC or its equivalent. The subjects must include: English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Health Science, Physics or Chemistry and any other subject.DIPLOMA IN HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT (HRORBN)
4b.ND HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENTTWO (2) YEARSFive (5) O’level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Health Science in either WAEC/NECO at not more than two sittings. Only candidates with JAMB score of 150 and above are eligible.NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
4c.HND HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENTTWO (2) YEARSNational Diploma (ND) in H.I.M with a minimum of lower credit. Health Record Technician Certificate with a minimum of lower credit and five (5) O’level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Health Science in either WAEC/NECO at not more than two sittings. Candidates must have completed one year industrial attachment. Those with ND with initial JAMB score of 150 are not required to write JAMB. However, candidates without ND certificates are required to have a JAMB score of 160 and above.HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
5.PHARMACY TECHNICIANTHREE (3) YEARSFive (5) credits at not more than two (2) sittings in WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO in the following subjects:
English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
PHARMACY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE.
6.MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIANTHREE (3) YEARSRequires WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO – Four credit passes in the following subjects:
English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry with at least a pass in Physics. (Results more than ten years as the date of this registration will be rejected by the Registration Board). Holders of Medical Lab. Assistant certificate with the above O’level.
MEDICAL LAB. TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE
7.DISPENSING OPTICIANRYTHREE (3) YEARSFour (4) credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings in WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO in the following subjects:
English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics with a minimum of pass in English Language or Mathematics. A candidate with a minimum of 10 years cognate experience in optical dispensing (apprenticeship), who has two or three credits in any of these subjects may also be considered for admission.
NATIONAL DIPLOMA
8.COMPUTER SCIENCETWO (2) YEARSFour credit level passes in WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO at not more than two sittings. The four subjects must include Mathematics, Physics, English Language and any other subject. JAMB score of 150 and above (JAMB subjects are English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry). 
Candidates with a pass in Computer Foundation Examination (CFE) of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) are also accepted. Such candidates must also have credit passes in the required O’level subjects.
NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN COMPUTER SCIENCE
9.RDIOGRAPHY (MEDICAL IMAGING PROCESSING TECHNICIAN)THREE (3) YEARSFive (5) credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings in WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO in the following subjects:
English Language, Mathematics plus either Physics, Chemistry or Biology and any other two (2) subjects.
Professional qualification:
Holder of Certificate in Medical Dark Room Practice (Dark Room Asst. Certificate) plus the above stated requirements will require two (2) years traning for Medical Dark Room Technician Programme.

How to Apply for Admission Into College of Health Technology Calabar

To apply for admission into College of Health Technology Calabar, candidates should follow the following steps:

  • Walk into any branch of First Bank Nigeria and pay the sum of Eight Thousand Naira only (N8,000.00) for the application form through the PayDirect platform. Use the code CRSH for institution’s code.
  • Logon to chtcalabar.edu.ng or click this Apply link to complete the e-Application form. You can login using your receipt number and serial number on the print out issued at the bank.

Application Deadline

Note that closing date for sales of form is 1st of June 2018 while entrance examination holds on the 9th of June 2018.

About College of Health Technology Calabar

The College of Health Technology Calabar, started as the Institute of Public Health in the later part of 1970, using the Diamond Health Center, Diamond Hill, as its temporary site. During this period, twenty one (21) School Health Attendants, and five (5) Community Nursing students were admitted for training.

Early in 1971, the Institute moved to No. 2 Hawkins Road, Calabar, yet another temporary accommodation. Other cadres of Health Personnel trained at this College were Rural Health Assistants and Leprosy Attendants. The College moved to its permanent site at Mary Slessor Avenue in 1975.

In 1976, the name of the school was changed to “School of Health Technology” following its approval by the Federal Ministry of Health. In the same year, the first batch of Public Health Nurses, direct intake of Community Midwives and Rural Health Superintendents (now Environmental Health Officers – EHO), and Community Health Aides, (now Junior/Community Health Extension Workers JCHEW).

In 1999, the College was granted provisional approval to run PHNO and EHO at HND level by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
