Bayero University Football Team, yesterday, Tuesday, July 16, 2019 defeated Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) at the opening group stage of Higher Institutions Football League (HIFL) competition by a narrow 1-0.
BUK’s top striker, Ahmad Umar Jafar was brought down by NSUK defender, Innocent John just five minutes into the game and the centre referee, Julius Long wasted no time in awarding a penalty to BUK Team. Ahmad Jafar converted the spot-kick to put BUK Stallions ahead.
NSUK Miners mounted ceaseless pressure on BUK’s defence in search of equaliser, but the duo of Umar Sa’id and Ahmad Muhammad thwarted their efforts.
BUK’s goalkeeper, Abdullahi Ahmad was voted man of the match for making string of saves to deny the NSUK Miners from scoring any goal.
The group stage matches continue today, Wednesday, 17th July, 2019, in which Benue State University (BSU) will trade tackles with NSUK Miners at Ahmad Adamu Mu’azu Stadium, BUK New Campus at 4pm.
Winner of the group stage involving BUK, NSUK and BSU will qualify to the round of 16 of the money spinning HIFL competition being hosted by BUK.
The HIFL competition is being sponsored by IBTC, Premier Cool and Indomie Nigeria with NUGA and Spanish La-liga as partners.
BUK Team will play its last match tomorrow, Thursday, 18th July, 2019 at Ahmad Adamu Mu’azu Stadium against Benue State University (BSU).
