A*STAR is currently accepting scholarship applications from candidates who wish to pursue their PhD education in Singapore for its 2018 Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA).
The National University of Singapore (NUS) is an autonomous university in Singapore. Founded in 1905, it is the oldest institute of higher learning (IHL) in Singapore, as well as the largest university in the country in terms of student enrolment and curriculum offered.
The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is an autonomous university in Singapore. NTU is consistently ranked amongst the world’s best universities in all of the major college and university rankings and is regarded as one of the top universities in Asia. In the 2017/18 QS World University Rankings, NTU was ranked 11th in the world and 1st in Asia, surpassing rival university National University of Singapore for the very first time. In the 2016 Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings, NTU came in joint 2nd in Asia, with Peking University.

A joint collaboration between A*STAR, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), SINGA fosters a vibrant and culturally diverse research community of international students.
Under SINGA, you’ll receive PhD training at an A*STAR Research Institute or one of the three top universities in Asia – NUS, NTU or SUTD. You’ll be working in a multi-cultural environment alongside distinguished and world-renowned researchers in state-of-the-art facilities.

Deadline for submission of application is 1st June 2018 (23:59 hrs GMT +8 Singapore time).

- Open for application to all international graduates with a passion for research and excellent academic results
- Good skills in written and spoken English
- Good reports from academic referees

What are the scholarship benefits?
The award provides support for up to 4 years of PhD studies including:
- Tuition fees
- Monthly stipend of S$2,000, which will be increased to S$2,500 after the passing of the Qualifying Examination
- One-time airfare grant of up to S$1,500*
- One-time settling-in allowance of S$1,000*

How to Apply for the SINGA PhD Scholarship
Once you have acknowledged acceptance of the SINGA award, the university (either NTU, NUS or SUTD) at which you will be enrolled in will send you its admission package which includes the offer of admission. You should send back a signed copy of the admission letter to the university to confirm that you accept its admission offer.
The university will apply for the student pass on your behalf through the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) web-based Student’s Pass Online Application and Registration (SOLAR) system. The SOLAR application number and other details that you need to log into the SOLAR system will be sent to you in your admissions package. You must follow the instructions to complete the application process prior to your departure for Singapore. Please note that it takes the ICA 2 – 4 weeks to process your application.
