Nollywood Studies Soon to be Started at Kwara State University

Kwara State University, also known as KWASU, is the 77th university to be registered by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC). It is the 95th university to be recognized in Nigeria.

The Kwara State University (KWASU), Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulRsheed Na’ Allah, has inaugurated a committee for the establishment of the centre for Nollywood studies in the University.

Na’ Allah disclosed this on Monday, in his opening address at the Conference on African Cinema, with the theme; “African Cinema and the Supernatural”, organised by the University.

He said that when operational, the centre would be charged with the responsibility of highlighting the role and effect of Nollywood films in the society.

Na’ Allah said that the conference was part of the University’s aim of building bridges between scholars and those who promote culture outside the university.

The vice-chancellor said that the essence of the conference was to redefine the progress made by the nation in terms of arts and culture for the benefit of all.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Onookome Okome, Lecturer, University of Alberta, Canada, said that the conference was aimed at exploring how Nollywood could depict the supernatural and its capacity in resolving problems.

He said that the centre being planned would be a focal point where the meaning and relevance of Nollywood would be studies. (NAN)

Helpful Tips:

How to Improve Your intelligence Quotient

Making Brainpower Fun

1. Take risks with your brain. Have you become a Scrabble master, able toss out 40-point words even when your rack looks like EEIOAUC? Fine, congratulations. Now go become a Sudoku master. When you reach that goal, move on. Become a Go master, or chess expert.
  • Once you become good at a particular skill, your brain stops working as hard. It doesn’t expend the resources, or trigger that dopamine rush that helps make you smarter. Feel free to continue to wallop the competition in Scrabble, but keep finding new “brain games” to explore.
2. Play logic/strategy games. In 2008, scientists Susanne Jaeggi and Martin Buschkuehl devised a method that would increase “fluid intelligence”—the ability to draw connections between things, solve problems, and adapt to new situations. By having test subjects pay attention to two different streams of information, they found they exhibited a significant gain in reasoning abilities.
