Lagos State University – also known as LASU – was established in 1983 by the enabling Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, for the advancement of learning and establishment of academic excellence. The university caters for a population of over 61,000 students enrolled for full-time and part-time programmes.
The university also offers courses at Diploma, Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. Lagos State University is located in Ojo, in the city of Lagos, Nigeria. LASU is the only state university in the former British colony.
The Vice-Chancellor is Professor John Oladapo Obafunwa. Lagos State University offers diploma, degree and post graduate programmes while its MBA programme is reputed to be highly revered in the Nigeria. The citadel is also known for various staff union agitations especially from the Lecturers’ ASUU,non teaching staff’s SSANU,NASU amongst others.
Various unrest has also been witnessed with the activities of the Lagos State University Students Union informally called LASUSU. The state university, which is known as the best state owned university in Nigeria, also boasts of a robust academic staff which include highly respected political science scholar-Professor Abubakar Momoh, thespian- Dr. Sola Fosudo, actor-Doyin Hassan amongst others.(Wikipedia)

Lagos State University, LASU is located in the Centre of Excellence and State of Aquatic splendor, it has the vision of becoming the preferred University of Excellence with cutting edge research.
The Lagos State University (LASU), will during its 20th convocation ceremony, award diploma, first and higher degree certificates to a total of 6,885 graduates.
Speaking during the pre-convocation press briefing, the Vice Chancellor, Professor John Obafunwa, stated that the university produced six First Class graduates from various faculties.
A breakdown of graduates from both full and part time programmes, showed that the Faculty of Arts has 764; Education 2,659; Engineering 91; Law 202; Management Science 1, 617; Science 728; Social Sciences 472; School of Communications 262; College of Medicine 79 and School of Transport 11.
Prof. Obafunwa described the 20th convocation ceremony as historic and unique due to the fact that, it would be the last convocation ceremony to be witnessed by Governor Fashola and visitor of the university.
He lauded the governor’s invaluable contributions to the stability, growth and development of LASU during his eight years administration.
The VC disclosed that the university would not award any honorary degrees in line with the directive of Governor Babatunde Fashola and the decision of the Governing Council.
