Also known as Blue Monday, Cyber Monday is a marketing term for the Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States of America (USA) which was created purposely to encourage people to shop online.

Yeah, that’s right! Blue Monday is all about shopping and shopping online to be precise. The term ‘Cyber Monday’ was coined by Ellen Davis and Scott Silverman and made its debut on November 28th 2005.

This year’s Cyber Monday is today, 30th November 2020. The Blue Monday sale has now become a frequent and annual shopping equivalent to Black Friday and it gives small retail websites opportunity to compete with their larger counterparts. Although it originated from the United States, other countries have also adopted the Blue Monday shopping just as Black Friday. These countries include; Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Asia, Japan, Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, and the list goes on and on. Since its inception, it has now become an internationally recognized marketing term used by online retailers all around the world.

Over here in Africa, Nigeria to be precise, some e-commerce shopping websites have begun observing the Cyber Monday sales.
