JAMB Defends Reduction Of Admission Cut-Off Mark
Today’s Channels TV Sunrise Daily programme brought together JAMB’s Head of Public Relations, Mr. Fabian Benjamin and Prof. Ngozi Osarenren, Former Commissioner for Education, Edo State and Current Professor of Counselling, University of Lagos in a debate addressing the issue of the reduction of the admission cut-off mark to 180.
Prof. Ngozi argues that the reduction is only further lowering Nigeria’s educational standards while Mr. Fabian says that the JAMB and all of the stakeholders that made this decision at the stakeholders’ meeting are only trying to open up the space for each institution to determine their carrying capacity. In other words, in an event where an institution does not have enough candidates that score 180 or 200 and above, such an institution can easily take candidates with lower scores instead of having to admit from the “back door.”
